Five Questions Every Manager Should Be Able to Answer About Your Mental Health Program
A mental health program is only as good as a manager's ability to point someone toward it in the moment that matters. If your managers can't answer these five questions off the top of their head, employees fall through the gap between "I need help" and "here's how." Test your team.
1. Where does an employee actually go for help - today?
Not "we have an EAP somewhere." The specific first step, the number or link, and what happens next.
2. What's the difference between the options?
When is the EAP right? When does someone need actual medical care? A manager who can't distinguish counselling from care will misroute people.
3. How fast can someone be seen?
If the honest answer is "months," managers need to know that - and know which pathway is faster for someone who's really struggling.
4. Is it confidential, and what do I need to know?
Managers must be able to reassure employees about privacy accurately, without overpromising.
5. What's my role - and where does it stop?
Support, connect, follow up - don't diagnose or counsel. A manager who knows their lane refers confidently instead of freezing.
The takeaway
If most managers can't answer these, the problem isn't the program - it's the last mile. Fix the last mile, and the care you already pay for finally reaches people.
CorpCARE makes the answers simple: one clear, fast path to real medical care your managers can recite in their sleep.
