The Renewal Conversation: Upgrading Clients From Counselling to Care
Renewal season is where advisors either coast on last year's program or add real value. Mental health is one of the easiest places to add that value - because most clients are renewing a counselling-based program without ever having considered the care layer above it. Here's how to make the upgrade conversation land.
Why renewal is the right moment
The client is already reviewing the program, budgets are in play, and mental health is on everyone's mind. It's the natural window to move from "renew as-is" to "let's make sure this actually covers your real exposure."
The upgrade framing
Don't frame it as "your program is inadequate." Frame it as maturation: last year you built support (EAP, app, paramedical); this year, complete it with the medical layer that treats the cases support can't. Counselling for the many, care for the few who need it most.
Anchor to the year's data
- Point to any mental-health disability claims or long leaves from the past year
- Ask whether those employees could actually access timely psychiatric care
- Show how the care layer would have changed those outcomes
Make the add easy
Because the medical layer complements rather than replaces the EAP, the upgrade is additive and low-friction - a strong, concrete recommendation that shows the client you're thinking about their exposure, not just re-papering last year's deal.
CorpCARE is the natural renewal upgrade - from counselling to care. Bring it to your renewal conversations and lead with insight.
